The Work of Many Hands
To grow and prosper, communities require care. It is the work of many hands ... sharing many talents, many hours, and many gifts.
Among the most valued gifts are those that cultivate knowledge. When we educate others to multiply fractions, nurture children, enter the workplace, or appreciate the arts we enrich the entire community by enriching its members. One generation teaches the next the importance of healthy minds, bodies, and spirits.
This work takes many hands committed to giving the gift of knowledge: the corporate hand that funds, as well as the thousands of hands that volunteer. In giving their time and their talents, by caring for each other, the members of the community care for the larger enterprise.
In fiscal year 2007, we gave $15 million in gifts to support our mission in the Milwaukee area as well as in communities across the nation. We also gave an additional $3.1 million in celebration of our company's 150th anniversary.
Our Mission
While education is the Foundation's focus, we embrace learning in its broadest sense. Accumulating knowledge also includes teaching and training within health and human services as well as offering opportunities to broaden people's experience through arts and culture.
The Northwestern Mutual Foundation has honored its mission inspiring human potential through lifelong learning and community commitment by granting support in three focus areas:
-
Education
- Health & Human Services
- Arts & Culture

We at the Foundation are proud of the impact of our work. We give more money than any other corporation in Wisconsin to support and develop the community. We invite you to view our latest Corporate Citizenship Report and to read more about the ways in which we have lent a helping hand to our nonprofit partners.
