Investment Strategy:

The Index 500 Stock Portfolio will attempt to meet this objective by investing in stocks included in the S&P 500® Index in proportion to their weighting in the index. The S&P 500® Index is composed of 500 common stocks representing more than 70% of the total market value of all publicly-traded common stocks.

The Index 500 Stock Portfolio will not be managed in the traditional sense using economic, financial and market analysis. A computer program will be used to determine which stocks are to be purchased or sold to achieve the Portfolio's objective. The Portfolio will, to the extent feasible, remain fully invested and will normally hold at least 450 of the 500 issues that comprise the S&P 500® Index. The Index 500 Stock Portfolio's ability to match the performance of the S&P 500® Index will be affected to some extent by the size and timing of cash flows into and out of the Index 500 Stock Portfolio. The Portfolio will be managed with a view to reducing such effects.

A portion of the assets may at times be invested in investment grade debt securities, short term commercial paper and Government and agency obligations, as well as option contracts, stock index futures contracts, and repurchase agreements.
