Investment Strategy:

The High Yield Bond Portfolio seeks to achieve its objective by investing primarily in a diversified selection of fixed income securities rated Ba1 or lower by Moody's Investors Service, Inc. or BB+ or lower by Standard & Poor's. The Portfolio may also invest in nonrated securities.

The securities in which the High Yield Bond Portfolio will invest are considered speculative and are sometimes known as "junk bonds". These securities tend to offer higher yields than higher rated securities of comparable maturities because the historical financial condition of the issuers of these securities is usually not so strong as that of other issuers. High yield fixed income securities usually present greater risk of loss of income and principal than higher rated securities. Investors in these securities should carefully consider these risks and should understand that high yield fixed income securities are not appropriate for short-term investment purposes.

The primary investment strategy of the High Yield Bond Portfolio is to invest in industries or individual companies which are attractively priced or have stable or improving fundamental financial characteristics. The success of this strategy depends on the manager's analytical and portfolio management skills. These skills are more important in the selection of high yield/high risk securities than would be the case with a portfolio of high quality bonds. In selecting securities for the High Yield Bond Portfolio the manager will consider the ratings assigned by the major rating agencies, but primary reliance will be placed on the manager's evaluation of credit and market risk in relationship to the expected rate of return.

The High Yield Bond Portfolio may invest in foreign securities consistent with its investment objective.
