Are You Protected from the Unexpected?

Taking the necessary steps to protect the life you envisioned when saying "I Do" should be a priority after the honeymoon. What would happen to your new spouse (and possibly children) if suddenly you weren't there? What if an accident, illness or injury keeps one of you from working?

Evaluating your protection against risk is a good excuse for taking a break from writing all of those thank yous. Here are a few things to consider:

Life Insurance
If you're just getting started and are both working, you may not need life insurance yet. But chances are you will need it at some point, so it can't hurt to talk with an expert. It can be beneficial to lock in rates while you're young and healthy. Buying now may also protect your future insurability by providing the opportunity to purchase more insurance later.

If you already own life insurance, it may be time to purchase additional coverage. Our calculator can help you find out how much life insurance you need. Also, remember to update your beneficiary designations.

Disability Insurance
The likelihood that you'll become disabled at some point in life is much greater than premature death. Disability income insurance protects your ability to earn an income by providing a monthly benefit. If your employer's benefits include disability insurance, there could be gaps in your coverage. Calculate how much disability insurance you may need.

Now is also the time to consider consolidating your health insurance coverage and to review your auto and homeowner or renter's insurance. Notify your agents about your marriage and inquire about family discounts and changes in coverage.
